Iron is usually absorbed by the body from food. In the human body iron forms a part of myoglobin and hemoglobin. Myoglobin aids muscles to store oxygen, and hemoglobin is an oxygen-carrier, responsible for transporting oxygen to organs, tissues, and blood.This is an essential mineral for the body. Ferrous sulphate is taken in the treatment of anemia, which is a form of iron deficiency.WARNINGSpeak to a doctor before taking ferrous sulfate. Patients with certain medical conditions should discuss their risk of taking ferrous sulfate, before consuming this vitamin. This applies to patients who have:Porphyria;Hemolytic anemia;Thalassemia;Recipient of regular blood-transfusions;Alcoholic. SIDE EFFECTSSeek immediate medical attention if you experience the following symptoms which point to an allergic reaction: hives, swelling of the tongue, lips, throat, or neck, and difficulty breathing.Serious side effects of taking ferrous sulfate include:Upset stomach;Constipation;Temporary staining of the teeth;Dark or black-colored stools. BEFORE TAKING FERROUS SULFATEBefore taking ferrous sulfate, assess your risk with your health care provider. This is especially applicable to individuals who have the following medical conditions:Hemolytic anemia;Iron-overload syndrome;Porphyria;Thalassemia;Alcoholic;Receive blood transfusions on a regular basis.Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or are breast feeding your baby.Do not administer this vitamin to children without medical guidance.IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTEDSymptoms of overdose include bloody diarrhea, shallow breathing, pale skin, seizures, blue lips, stomach pain, and coughing blood.Seek immediate medical attention if you experience the following symptoms which point to an allergic reaction: hives, swelling of the tongue, lips, throat, or neck, and difficulty breathing. PROPER STORAGE OF FERROUS SULPHATEKeep this vitamin in a tightly sealed container, away from moisture and light, at room temperature.
