Naloxone works to arrest the effects of buprenorphine, when it is administered sublingually.Both naloxone and buprenorphine are used in the treatment of opiate addiction.Suboxone is a class 3 substance because its key ingredient, buprenorphine is a target for people who abuse street drugs and prescription medicines. This medication should be stored in a secure place to guard it from being stolen. Never share this medication with anyone, as it may harm them or cause death. Giving away or selling this medication is a criminal offense.It is unknown if Suboxone is effective or safe for children. WARNING:Abuse PotentialThis medication may be easily abused as other illicit or legal opioids. Buprenorphine should be prescribed and dispensed  with precaution so as to reduce the risk, abuse, misuse, or diversion. Clinical monitoring should be in place. Multiple refills should only be prescribed after patient follow-ups only.Respiratory DepressionWhen this medication is taken intravenously, along with CNS depressants, and benzodiazepines, it may cause respiratory depression and even death. Death may also occur when buprenorphine was taken with other depressants such as alcohol.CNS DepressionPatients who take buprenorphine along with general anesthetics, phenothiazines, sedatives, other CNS depressants, and benzodiazepines, may experience CNS depression.Pediatric Exposure (Unintentional)If children accidentally injest this medication, it may cause a severe and even fatal occurrence of respiratory depression. This medication should be stored out of reach from children.DependenceTaking this medication may lead to physical dependence, along with withdrawal symptoms and signs, if it is discontinued abruptly.Allergic ReactionsSigns of a possible allergic reaction to naloxone and buprenorphine include:hives, pruitus, and rashesNeonatal WithdrawalInfants of mothers who took buprenorphine, report withdrawal symptoms such as neonatal agitation, myoclonus, apnea, bradycardia, and respiratory depression.Ability to operate machinery and drive is impairedPatients who begin a course of Suboxone, should be certain that this medication does affect their ability to operate machinery or drive.Elevation Of Cerebrospinal Fluid PressureAn elevation of cerebrospinal fluid-pressure is possible, especially in patients who have intracranial lesions, and head injury.General PrecautionsThis medication should be prescribed with caution to patients with hypothyroidism, myxedema, and adrenal cortical insufficiency.SIDE EFFECTS:Taking naloxone and buprenorphine may lead to drug dependence. If this medication is stopped too soon, it may lead to withdrawal symptoms. This medication is intended for occasional use. Do not abruptly stop this medication without medical supervision. In order to minimize withdrawal symptoms, your doctor may gradually reduce your dosage.Seek emergency medical care or contact your prescribing doctor immediately if the following serious responses occur:Allergic reactions such as swelling of the throat, face, tongue, and throat, hives, difficulty breathing.Slow breathingConfusion or dizzinessProblems with the liver as indicated by dark urine, light-colored stools, decreased appetite, nausea, pain in the lower stomach.Common side effects include:PainHeadacheSleeping issuesConstipationSweatingStomach painNausea This is not an exhaustive list of side effects that may occur.
